  105. three months, DAVID TROY and TODD LOVE have been hard at work on an 
  106. entirely new catalog. The Catalog features products for the Atari Lynx, 
  107. Jaguar, ST, Falcon, TT, Stacy, STE, and PC-Compatibles. All new 
  108. photographs and artwork make the catalog the best one ever! David Troy 
  109. explains, "We're really excited about the changes we've made and the new 
  110. products we've been able to feature."

  123.       One quick note: as we said, the catalog is available in PDF format 
  124. -- this is Adobe's Acrobat format. In order to read this format, you 
  125. will need Adobe's Acrobat reader, available for Mac & PC and some UNIX 
  126. platforms. HOWEVER (there's always a 'however,' isn't there?) the PDF 
  127. files can also be parsed by the latest version of GhostScript (a public 
  128. domain PostScript interpreter made available free under the Gnu Public 
  129. Software License) on the Atari. GhostScript is available for download on 
  130. Genie or on Toad Computers UMICH ftp mirror site 
  131. (ftp.toad.net/pub/umich). You can also buy GhostScript on the new 
  132. WHITELINE Delta CD ROM ($45, see below!!) Anyway, Adobe's ACROBAT format 
  133. is a great way to distribute printed documents electronically, and 
  134. reading PDF files with GHOSTSCRIPT does work!!

  140. C-LAB FALCON MK-X ANNOUNCED!!
  141.  
  142.       C-Lab of Germany announced the new Falcon MK-X at the ProTOS show 
  143. held in Bonn on November 25 & 26. The Falcon MK-X is the same basic 
  144. Falcon MK-I/II to which we have become accustomed, but in a new, sleek 
  145. and expandable case.
  146.  
  147.       Based on the successful FALCON MK-I specification and complete 
  148. with the audio quality improvements which distinguish C-LAB's machines 
  149. from the Atari original, C-LAB's latest machine is supplied in a new 
  150. attractive desktop housing which gives plenty of room for various 
  151. important internal expansion options. The MK X (signifying 
  152. eXpandability) is controlled using a PC-AT style keyboard and Atari-
  153. compatible mouse.
  154.  
  155.       The MK X features the same basic connectivity as a standard FALCON 
  156. with the exception of the stereo mini-jacks for audio in and out which 
  157. have each been replaced by two standard size mono jack sockets. This 
  158. gives a better connection for the professional musician, as well as 
  159. compatibilty with standard audio patch cables. The price for the MK-X 
  160. machines has not yet been announced, but it will be only a bit higher 
  161. than comparable MK-I/MK-II machines. Falcon MK-X machines will begin 
  162. shipping sometime in January 1996.

  164. INTERNAL DRIVE OPTIONS
  165.  
  166.       The MK X can be purchased with an optional internal SCSI bus (like 
  167. the MK II) which can accommodate various 3.5" hard drives (up to 4GB), 
  168. or alternatively a SyQuest removable drive. Different aluminum blanking 
  169. plates can be fitted to the front panel depending on the chosen media.
  170.  
  171. DIGITAL INTERFACE OPTION
  172.  
  173.       Along with the existing RAM and hard disk options, an optional 
  174. internal digital (DAT SPDIF) interface is available. Pricing has not yet 
  175. been announced. All Falcons (Atari, MK-I/II/X) are compatible with 
  176. external SPDIF interfaces from SoundPool and BlowUp.
  177.  
  178. UPGRADING TO MK-X
  179.  
  180.       C-LAB Falcon MK-I/II owners can upgrade their computer to the MK X 
  181. configuration for just the cost of the new case. This is handled 
  182. directly by Toad Computers. This recasing might be a good time to add 
  183. other hardware upgrades like RAM, hard disks, or digital interface as 
  184. well.
  185.  
  186.       Atari FALCON030 owners can also take advantage of this upgrade, 
  187. depending on the exact model of their motherboard. The C-LAB audio 
  188. modifications would be a necessary part of this upgrade. Prices for this 
  189. upgrade will be made available soon.

  235. dramatic price reductions on its Atari Jaguar 64 video game system. The 
  236. system is now priced at just $99 and mass merchants everywhere are 
  237. excited about the change. The system had been priced at $149. Now more 
  238. than ever, the 64-bit technology of the Jaguar is accessible to buyers 
  239. everywhere.

  241. Atari believes the new price will lead to major acceptance of the 
  242. platform in the marketplace, and provide an even stronger base for its 
  243. expanding library of games and the JagCD peripheral unit.

  272. BLOW-UP FX BOARD -- THE AMAZING THREE-IN-ONE FALCON EXPANDER!

  274. Toad Computers is pleased to announce the availability of the 
  275. BlowUp Falcon FX Board. This dynamic expansion board for the Atari/C-Lab 
  276. Falcon 030 provides acceleration and expansion that's unparalleled by 
  277. previous boards. The board is just $249 and will begin shipping by the 
  278. end of December, 1995.

  280. BLOWUP FX: FAST-RAM, ACCELERATOR, RESOLUTION-EXPANSION
  281.  
  282. BlowUp FX includes three major enhancements for your Falcon030. We 
  283. will explain each segment of the board and how it can enhance your 
  284. system:
  285.  
  286. FAST-RAM
  287.  
  288. Upgrade your Falcon to up to 32MB of RAM. Aimed primarily at 4MB
  289. Falcons, this board gives you four 30 pin SIMM sockets into which
  290. you can install 1MB or 4MB 30 pin SIMMs. This is a great way to
  291. recycle those old 30 pin SIMMs!
  292.  
  293. The RAM installed in the BlowUp FX board is FAST RAM -- meaning it
  294. is not used for video functions. The FastRAM comes after the
  295. standard Falcon RAM in memory -- meaning that your 4MB of Falcon
  296. RAM can still be used! So, you can take your Falcon to 14MB by
  297. adding the FX board and 2 (each) 1MB and 4MB SIMMS -- 4 + 2 + 8
  298. equals 14MB, and this is FASTER RAM than you get with a standard
  299. 14MB machine!!
  300.  
  301. The new FAST-RAM can be used for all functions, including DMA
  302. access, but is not used for video. Because there is no video
  303. access to the FASTRAM, it is up to 50% faster than conventional
  304. Falcon RAM in color modes.
  305.  
  306. The FAST-RAM can be used with accelerators you may have previously
  307. installed, like the PowerUP 2, or you can install (enable) the
  308. accelerator included in the FX board. If you use the included
  309. clock accelerator, a special Page-mode of RAM accessing will be
  310. used in 32/36/40MHz modes. This allows RAM-access with no
  311. waitstates and increases the memory throughput from its regular
  312. 8MB/second to a whopping 20MB/sec!! If you don't need the
  313. acceleration functions, the FX is still a simple 'Plug-N-Play'
  314. memory card.
  315.  
  316. If more than 10MB is inserted into the FX, the upper part is
  317. switched by the MMU and the FX-logic chips. The management of
  318. the extended memory is done fully invisibly for all applications
  319. by using the PMMU built-in to the 68030 CPU.
  320.  
  321. To achieve the full 32MB of the board, you will need a second RAM
  322. daughterboard (coming soon). This board has an additional four
  323. 30-pin SIMM sockets and can accommodate 16 more megabytes of RAM.
  324. This daughterboard will not fit in a standard Atari/MK-I/II case
  325. and would require something like the C-Lab Falcon MK-X case.
  326.  
  327.  
  328. CPU & SYSTEM CLOCK ACCELERATOR
  329.  
  330. Take your Falcon to new speeds with the clock accelerator included
  331. on the BlowUP FX board. Choose between a 32MHz, 36MHz, or 40MHz
  332. system clock. This results in CPU speeds of 16MHz (normal), 18MHz,
  333. or 20MHz. With the special logic chips included on the FX, nearly
  334. all Falcons can use a 40MHz system clock. The clock may be
  335. switched on booting or during operation using a CPX module.
  336. Soldering is required for installation, and we recommend you have
  337. us do it for you.

  340. DSP ACCELERATOR
  341.  
  342. Increase the speed of your Motorola 56001 Digital Signal Processor
  343. chip from 32MHz to 50MHz! Superb for MPEG decoder software and
  344. other DSP-intensive applications! Installation requires soldering.

  347. BLOWUP HARD-I
  348.  
  349. The well known and time-tested resolution expansion also found a
  350. place on the FX card! With great control software and super
  351. resolutions of 800 x 608 @ 84 Hz, 1024 x 768 @ 104Hz. Installation
  352. requires soldering.

  354. That's right -- all of these great new features are incorporated 
  355. right into the FX Board -- everything from FASTRAM to the CPU 
  356. ACCELERATOR, the DSP ACCELERATOR and HARD-I RESOLUTION EXPANDER, all on

  1385. EXPOSE -- Video Digitizer for the Falcon030! 
  1386.  
  1387. What Is Expose'?
  1388. Expose' is an advanced video digitizer for use with the Atari and C-Lab 
  1389. Falcon030 series of computers. It provides a means to "capture" live 
  1390. video images, either as a single frame or a sequence of images, from a 
  1391. camera or VCR in real time, with a resolution of 512x512 in true color.
  1392.  
  1393. What Does This All Mean?
  1394. The image from the camera or VCR is automatically processed by the RGB 
  1395. Splitter and divided into three separate, analog signals: red, green and 
  1396. blue (commonly referred to as RGB). The RGB signal is then diverted down 
  1397. an interconnecting cable to Expose', where it is converted to a digital 
  1398. format that the Falcon can interpret. Expose' then passes the image 
  1399. across the Atari Falcon's internal expansion bus where it is displayed 
  1400. on-screen at whatever resolution is selected within the software. All 
  1401. this happens in "real-time" - that is, "so quick you won't notice it's 
  1402. happening!"
  1403.  
  1404. Expose' permits this digital image to retain a 16-bitplane true color 
  1405. palette (or in other words, a picture containing 65,536 colors per 
  1406. image), thereby retaining near photographic quality. In addition, the 
  1407. supporting software, APEX Media (sold separately), further boosts this 
  1408. capability to realize even higher resolution in 24 bit color (16,777,216 
  1409. colors per image). However to realize this resolution and number of 
  1410. colors, realistically this method can only be used to capture still 
  1411. images with the camera mounted on a tripod or with the VCR paused 
  1412. (preferably digital freeze frame).
  1413.  
  1414. Using Expose' and APEX Media to capture live video on the fly allows a 
  1415. sequence of images to be compiled into an animation, which can then be 
  1416. played back within APEX Media or stored as a FLIC file.
